Whatever Happens, Happens for the Good
Once the King Akbar’s finger got injured while cutting fruits. It started bleeding. The Vaidya was called for dressing. Perchance Birbal also arrived there. When he came to know about it, he consoled the king, saying, My Lord don’t worry, whatever happens, happens for the good. Since the injury was paining, the king did not like the comment and got so annoyed with Birbal, that he ordered that Birbal should be immediately arrested and imprisoned.
The king had planned to go for hunting. He did not change his schedule due to the injury and left for hunting. While chasing a prey, he went a long way alone in the forest. Suddenly some tribal people captured him and took him to their tribal head. The tribal head ordered that he should be sacrificed before their goddess. When the sacrificial ceremony began, one of the tribesmen saw a bandage on his finger. The tribal priest said that the sacrifice is not whole. So they cannot sacrifice an injured person. They left him in the Jungle and asked him to go his way. Then the king remembered Birbal’s comments, whatever happens, it happens for the good. He felt sorry for his treatment meted out to Birbal.
When he returned to his palace, he immediately ordered that Birbal should be released. He regretted to Birbal for the imprisonment. But Birbal again said the same, my lord, whatever happens, happens for the good. The king agreed and said yes, you were right Birbal. He then narrated the whole incident of the sacrifice by the tribals and how his injured finger had saved him. The king said, no doubt what you said was true in my case, but you suffered unnecessarily. Birbal humbly replied, my lord, if you had not imprisoned me, you would have definitely taken me too along with you. And the tribals finding your finger injured would have sacrificed me instead. The imprisonment saved my life. So I can say that whatever happens happens for the good.
It’s a story, still the moral is priceless. We all know that thinking positively through tough times is not easy. It’s hard to practice, easier said than done. Nevertheless, they are great support under difficult circumstances.
